The Maze Runner Blog #8

Summary: Thomas sees about 50 other boys in the distance. And another boy named Newt comes by to slap Alby for some reason. Alby says that this place is called the Glade, and they’re called Gladers. Then another boy comes along, his name is Chuck, and then Thomas hears screams from a wooden building, Chuck says they got Ben. Thomas is not sure who they are, not even Chuck knows. Then Chuck and Thomas go to this building for Ben. When they get there they meet yet another boy and he says that he remembers Thomas from somewhere before.

Character Analysis: Since it’s still pretty early on the book, Thomas, seems confused still. I mean I would be too, waking up in a place you do not know, meeting new people and new things. But this Alby kid seems like he’s been here for awhile now and in the book, described as a leader.

The Maze Runner Blog #7

Summary: In the beginning of the book Thomas wakes up in a elevator. He doesn't remember anything about his life or where he is. The elevator then stops and the doors open, the light comes in and blinds him. He sees other boys around his age, all talking and standing around. He is somewhere in a courtyard, larger than a football field. Then a kid named Alby comes towards Thomas saying he’ll give him the full tour tomorrow.

Reflection/Prediction: So far in the book, Thomas just wakes up and practically is in a middle of nowhere. And is in a strange environment but probably a normal one for the kids who are already there. Since this Alby kids showed up and said he’ll give Thomas a tour we’ll start to find out what this place really is.

Trouble Blog #6

Summary: In the beginning of the book, Henry's father says "if you build your house far enough away from Trouble, then Trouble will never find you." In the end of the book Henry says "in order to live well, one must learn to live where trouble is. Henry then climbs atop of Mount Katahdin and the book is over. I enjoyed this book, since the beginning of where Henry's brother dies to the adventure of climbing Mount Katahdin. And in the end Henry learns that you have to learn to live where trouble is.

Theme/Conflict: Well the theme is "Learn to live where trouble is." Even Henry says this. To me I think this means to learn to live with difficulties and everything will eventually be better. In the book, Franklin always said they'll climb the mountain, when Franklin passes away, Henry does climb the mountain. And I think the conflict was man vs nature and maybe man vs man. I say man vs nature because on the mouton they had to cross a river, walk up hill, and had many more challenges. I say man vs man because Henry is thinking about Franklin and climbing this mountain. And even Chay, the person that accidentally killed Franklin. Overall this was a good book.

Trouble Blog #5

Summary: Henry Smith decides to climb Mt. Katahdin, 3 other people tag along with Henry. First his best friend, Sanborn Brigham. The second person is Chay, he was the person that accidentally killed Franklin, Henry's brother. At first Henry didn't want Chay to tag along but after getting to know him and his background Henry kind of understood him. The third person to climb the mountain with Henry is Henry's sister, Louisa. Meanwhile climbing the mountain, it was almost a competition for all the three. There was one part where they were crossing a small river  or stream and Chay was ahead while Henry was behind, seeing who can be there first. But they are still climbing the mountain for Franklin.

Reflection: So far in the book I like the story, a somewhat happy family and then out of nowhere trouble comes and Franklin dies. And Franklin always wanted to climb a mountain with his younger brother, Henry. And now Henry wants to climb it alone, well with three other people for Franklin. But there are challenges to overcome. He met the person that killed his own brother, having to deal with that. Then climbing this huge mountain. I think they will, they seem determined and everything has kind of been going smoothly.

Trouble Blog #4

Summary: The book starts off with "if you bold a your house far enough from trouble, then Trouble will never find you." The Smiths have lived where their family has always lived. Henry Smith is the main character in this story, he is a young prep school student. He has a brother named Franklin, and Franklin would always tell Henry they would climb a mouton together, Mount. Katahdin. But one day while Franklin was jogging he got hit by a car, he was sent to the hospital. Franklin and his parents came, henry too. He was in bad shape, he had a broken arm, and didn't wake up for awhile, The he woke up for a short time and said to Henry "Katahdin", then Franklin passed away. Now Henry wants to climb that mountain just by himself.

Prediction: So far in the book Franklin has died, and Henry is determined to climb Mount Katahdin. I think he will but there is probably going to be a lot of "Trouble" in between just by the name of the book and what has happened to Franklin getting hit by the car and dying. I say this because I just don't think every things going to be peachy, already in the book someone has died and I don't think things are just going to work out later if Henry does climb the mountain.

Native Americans marginalized.

Native Americans have been marginalized by society. In 'Would We Be Killed?', Captain Henry stated "Kill the Indian, save the man." And later in the text it says that the indians are savage. Almost meaning like they're wild, or like animals. So Henry wanted to save these Indians and make them more civil, like the white people. This shows that the Indians have been discriminated and been called savages.

The purpose of this essay is to show that Native Americans aren't really that different than us. They wear regular clothes, have celebrations, have grocery stores, have TV and do many other things that we do. Shanice Britton is saying that Native Americans are no different than anybody else, they do a lot of the same things. They also do many different things, in ceremonies they wear their traditional clothes, also they like to hunt a lot. They kill dears and make soups out of them, and have their own slang.

The Nazi Hunters #3 Blog

Summary: After waiting and waiting they finally got there target, Eichmann. After planning this for  years, they plan the perfect ambush. After Eichmann was planning to meet someone here they were an undercover agent. And more agents hide aside of the street. It's late at night and dark, Eichmann arrives. Everything seems peachy then the agents from behind grab him, put something over his head and take him into a car. Then they take him into a "safe house" not far and question him. They put blacked out goggles on him, and ask him questions. The agent says, "We have a few questions to ask..." Eichmann replies with "Yes, Sir." Everything is civil, Eichmann keeps his cool. Later, Eichmann is taken to court, then to jail. Jews that are out say terrible things about this man. He is then killed for what he has done.

Reflection: The Nazi Hunters was a good book, interesting and almost like a murder case or something similar. Agents are following this man, evidence, clues and other things. I think Eichmann should've been killed for what he has done. Because of him many jews and different people have died, and then he leaves and tries to stay low because he doesn't want to be caught. I think it was good what happened. The plan was complicated but it worked, tracking Eichmann down. Executing it , it all worked. They got the person and that was it.

The Nazi Hunters #2 Blog

Summary: In the Book right now it's explaining how the spies are watching the guy they need to capture, Eichmann. After doing more research before about Eichmann's whereabouts they find a location to pinpoint him. A team of spies have been assembled, Rafi Eitan the chief of operations. Moshe Tabor, Yaakov Gat, Avraham Shalom, Shalom Dani, Peter Malkin, Yaakov Medad. Now Shalom, Malkin were hiding in the distance waiting for Eichmann who was suppose to come to some meeting. They see a bus approach and immediately Shalom says "That's him." They sit and wait, and see's what he does next.

Reflection/Prediction: So far this book has been good and explained a lot about the people in this mission and what's it about. I like the format of this book how it has pictures and graphs and all these other things about this operation back at the time. It's interesting knowing they did all this.  I think sooner or later they will find this Eichmann person and do something to him, I'm not sure what but something. I'll just have to wait and see.

Tolerance

Tolerance: the ability or willingness to allow the existence, occurrence, or practice of something, in particular the existence of opinions or behavior that one does not necessarily agree with.
  • What does tolerance mean to you?  Tolerance kind of means to be open minded, well at least for me. Something you don't necessarily agree with but you allow it. Or another way I see it is that you don't like something you just will have to get use to it, because if the thing you don't agree with sticks around might as well get use to it.
  • How can you be more tolerant of others? Maybe learn more about other people and you will tolerant them and start to accept them more.

The Nazi Hunters #1 Blog

Summary: Adolf Eichmann a nazi being hunted down by a group of hunters. He was well known in the nazi party. And is being chased down by "hunters". He was known for helping construct the concentration camps, bringing in jews and killing them and many more worse things. After the war he left his wife and kid to hide from being "chased".  Some time has passed and a team came up with perfect ideas on how to get to Eichmann. There is limited information about Eichmann, but Simon Wiesenthal made the best out of it. He works in the OSS, Office of Strategic Services. Then Manus Diamant an undercover agent was suppose to go and find Eichmann's wife and investigate on his whereabouts.

Plot:  I like the plot of the story, so far its explaining Eichmann and what he does and the spies and there jobs. I think it's cool how the book and plot are starting off and unfold to how the spies or hunters will capture the "most notorious Nazi" And so far it's just the uprising and getting to the climax which will most likely being the spies getting to Eichmann.

"Franklin D. Roosevelt." #8 Blog

Summary: FDR is now the 32nd president of the United States. He was elected 4 times, which is now a law that you can't be elected more than 2 times. He was hired during the times of WWII and lead America to victory. He was commander in chief and still had polio and we won, but he didn't do it alone of course. He had help from many of his "workers" and everyone else working in that cabinet. And just before WWII there was the great depression in the 30's, and he helped America through it. Many people recall that "FDR was one of the best presidents" "He was nice for what he did." He would do the fireside chats during WWII and keep people up to date with what was going on in the world at the time. FDR then was elected his 4th time in 1945 then died of a stroke on April 12. The world was shocked because of this.

Reflection: FDR was a good president and was different from most, being elected 4 times, having polio, going through WWII and the Great Depression. He even married his distant cousin and had 5 kids. He would also use a wheelchair because of the polio he had, he couldn't move his right leg or it was hard trying to move it. But he would never use it for pictures as he would always trying to look strong and not weak because he was the president. And it was shocking because no one really expected him to die, he was going on his 4th term the war was coming to an end soon and everything was ok. Then he dies and everybody is shocked about it.

"Franklin D. Roosevelt." #7 Blog

Summary:
FDR just finished Harvard and loves politics, so as he grows older at the age of 28, he would go into town and give speeches. At first he was shaky, nervous or even to slow that the crowd would start to clap when he really din't finish. Then after practicing he got better and better. And later became the state senator in 1911. Then WWI started and FDR wanted to volunteer as a naval officer but when he did it was too late. But when the war was over he attended the peace conference at Versailles. And just a couple years later FDR was said to have polio.

Character analysis:
At this time a chain of events happened for FDR. Becoming state senator, finishing college, WW1 starting, and getting polio.  But surprisingly none of these really hurt FDR he was still doing what he always do. He would have to use a cane or have someone help him but, it didn't bother him. He even went swimming after.

"Franklin D. Roosevelt." #6 Blog

Summary:

After FRD went to High school of course. . In school he would get a “Gentleman’s C” or a B occasionally. His scheduled consisted of “a little bit of studying, a little riding, and a few parties calls.” FDR was in his freshman year when his father died. At home he would help his mother through his father’s death, FDR was also stung by the loss of his father. He died at the age of 72 with a some sort of hear disease. After he went to Harvard we’re he soon became a “better man”.

Character:

FDR was a  “gentleman” in school. He would always help people too. He even played sports in school. He played baseball. First he tried football but he didn’t really like it, he would get “hurt” a lot. So he tried out for baseball and stuck too it. Well, he also did another sport too, High kick. You had to leap into the air and kick a tin can from the ceiling. FDR became a champion high kicker.

'Franklin D. Roosevelt.' #5 Blog

Summary/Info: Franklin Delano Roosevelt or FDR was the 32nd president. He was a popular president even said "The Man Who Changed America" The citizens of the united states liked FDR, the Fireside talks he did over the radio. The author says "He was such a dynamic president." He loved to be first,  he was the first political candidate in his district to campaign by automobile. He also was the first president to fly in an airplane, first to name a women to his cabinet, first to appoint a press secretary, and the first to leave the country in a time of war. He was the first and only president to be elected a third term. He also had a wheelchair, he found not walk by himself, he would need braces or crutches of even other people to help him. He also lead America to victory in WWII.

Character analysis (Early Life): FDR was born on January 30, 1882 and born into a pretty wealthy family. At a young age he could tell he was in a "privileged class" or "exclusive class." FDR did not go to public school, his mother taught him how to read and write before he was 6. Then put him to the hands of succession of governesses and tutors to teach him Latin, French, and German. Also History, geography, science, and arithmetic. At the age of 10 he became a naturalist and began collecting bird nests, eggs, feathers, and recording and observing different things. At the age of 11 his father gave him a shotgun. His parents were pretty strict though, can't do this, can't talk to them, only do this and so on. But FDR had a pretty good childhood, probably better than most at the time.

'The Walking Dead Road to Woodbury' #4 Blog

Summary: The group of survivors did go with Martinez, but he didn't talk much about himself, rather more about this place called Woodbury and saying how good it is. Walls, food, protection and other nonsense. They had to make 2 stops, one at Walmart the other at a near by gas station. They made it quick, and barely found anything, so it was pretty much a waste of time. But at the gas station they found some gas, not a lot. And that was about it. The group continued most of the time it was all quite. And as they were approaching this town, they seen a sign that said, "WELCOME TO WOODBURY POPULATION 1,102."  Josh turns to the rest of the group and says "How do you feel about this." Everybody having anxious looks on their faces. Then Martinez turns and asks for their weapons, saying it's the "Town Rules." Josh doesn't seem to buy this and starts to argue. Then Martinez finally came up with a conclusion. He said to put away the larger weapons but they can keep the sidearms "tucked away." Now they were about to go on their Nickel Tour.

Signpost: Tough Question-In the last blog I did Martinez asks a really tough question towards Josh's group asking them if they want to go with him to this town. The group took a long time and finally answered "sure, why not." But they were faced with another tough question, to give up their weapons. They were also, sceptic about this. Asking themselves if they should trust this guy and do what he says. And yet again they said "Fine." but at least kept the other sidearms. I think this is going to bring conflict and drama at this town if they stay long. Not trusting another person.

'The Walking Dead Road to Woodbury' #3 Blog

Summery: After walking around they seen a couple of cars on the road and figured to siphon the fuel. Mean while they were gathering fuel, Walkers were coming towards them all of the sudden.  Josh and Bob were gonna protect them. But a man in a bandanna came towards them, he started to help them, by defending them with the walkers. After Lilly, Megan and Scott got the gas they met up with the new mysterious guy. His name, Martinez, he said something about a settlement not to far away. They have walls, food, water, and even some electricity. The group was skeptical, but ended up on all agreeing to go with "Martinez."

Plot/Prediction: So, so far in the book this group of people were in a safe place... then left to go on the road. Now that there on the road.. they're just doing whatever. They found some cars and though it would've been good to get gas. Then a stranger comes named "Martinez" that offers a good deal. He tells them about a safe place not far from where they're at, and need a couple of helping hands to help them. I think this place is not what it's going to be, I have a eerie feeling about this and the group of people might be in a bad situation. But they agreed to all go and find better lives in a terrible world.

'The Walking Dead Road to Woodbury' #2 Blog

Summary: After hearing the noises outside of the gates, everybody was scared and didn't know if the walkers would come in.  They started getting prepared, Lilly, Josh, Bob, Megan, and Scott. And everybody else in the large group. After a short while of being mute, nothing came. Afterwards they started doing the things they were doing until... The "Leader" of the group said Josh couldn't stay. Lilly didn't like that and tried to reason with the man. Josh began packing his things and said he was leaving. Lilly decided she going with him, afterwards a domino affect happened. Lilly left, then Bob decided to leave, then, Megan and Scott got ready to leave this place they use to call "Home". They decided to walk wherever the wind blew them.

Theme: The theme so far is If you do something bad you have to deal with it. Or something similar to that. Josh Lee, got into the fight, and that led to him leaving and Lilly, Bob, Megan, and Scott leaving with him too. Now they're on their own with very little supplies, and no where to go. They also don't even have transportation so I think their chances are very slim. I wonder where their gonna go next?

'The Walking Dead Road to Woodbury' #1 Blog

The Book I'm reading is The Walking Dead 'Road to Woodbury' the second book of The Walking Dead. The book starts off with a different character instead of Phillip. The main character in this book is Lilly, and from what I see she's in a safe place with fence and people doing work. There's new people such as, Josh Lee, Bob Stookey, Megan and Scott. And everyone is safe, it's quiet. Until Josh and the guy that is on watch get into a little fight, Josh leaves with his hands bruised and hurt. Then there was a lot of commotion about what they should do about Josh, and they heard many noises outside of the fence and seen many "walkers" walking towards them.

So far already in the book, the conflict is Man vs Man, with Josh and the 'Man on watch' who got into a fight. And now people are discussing what they should do with Josh, if he's safe enough to keep at the group. And I'm sure many more conflicts will happen soon in the book.
