The Devil's Arithmetic Blog #2

Summary: After the Nazi's came into the wedding Hannah and the group went to go hide in a wagon. But then the Nazi's found them, and captured them. They put them in a boxcar, cramped with a bunch of other people. They got out into a concentration camp, they had to go inside, naked. They sat down on a cold bench, and later got tattooed numbers on their arms. Hannah, now J197241 in the camp. After sometime, they finally try to escape the concentration camp. Making plans to finally escape.

Conflict: This book as several conflicts in it. Man Vs. Society, The Jews are being captured by the Germans and getting put into these camps. The second conflict is Man Vs. Man, they have to face a lot of people in the camp. And the last is Man Vs. Self. Hannah is going through a lot of changes and is forgetting where she came from.

The Devil's Arithmetic (Blog)

Summary: Hannah was just a normal Girl living in present time. They were going to a Passover at Rosemary's house. She found a pen and wrote numbers on her arms just like her Grandpa's, but he got really mad and started yelling stuff in Yiddish. Then she goes in her room, she feels dizzy and lays down. Then she wakes up in the past. And meets a bunch of new people from the past, and she is in the past. And then they go to a wedding and they see a bunch of Nazi's, and Hanna's telling Shmuel about the Nazi's killing many people and he says that's no such thing. And the Nazi's come into the Wedding.

Signpost: A-ha Moment: When Hannah seen the Nazi's she remembers that later in time they kill 6 million Jews. And she warns the people she's with but they don't believe her at all. And continue on, saying there's no such things of that.

Holocaust Blog Post

I think many people were bystanders because a lot of the people feared the Nazi's, many didn't want to get hurt or risk themselves or families. Many people just sat around and let things happen without doing anything. But, many other people did stand up for people or took resist of the Nazi's. I think it inspired others because they've had enough of the Nazi's, or said they didn't have anything to lose for and might as well help others. People like that saved families, Schindler even saved as much much of 11,000 people. I think I would have been a bystander, I wouldn't want to risk myself, or my family. And I think the rest of my family wouldn't do anything too risky either.

Assignment (3) Summary and Plot/The Walking Dead

Summary: After David Chalmers passed away and when everyone was waiting. Phillip and Brian heard some noise in the other room, a big thumping noise. Like someone was falling or hitting the ground, Phillip runs in the room and see's that David was on the ground reaching for Tara, he was one of those "biters" as they call them. Tara was shocked and scared, Phillip reached for April's baseball bat and used it, hitting David several times. After, they buried him outside in the back, Tara had mixed emotions, feeling sad, then feeling mad at Phillip for doing that. They wait, no one talks for awhile. April then says "Thanks for what you did." to Phillip. The next day, Nick the other person with the group has been going outside by himself, making little "safe zones" he marks them with a note and leaves them just for emergencies. Phillip didn't like that he went out by himself, but when Nick took him out and they brought back a lot of stuff. Then he took April later that day to get some stuff. They went out and everything was peachy. But Phillip kind of likes April, as reminding him of his wife, Sarah. He was telling her that. But there was some commotion outside and their were more "biters." So they ran back to their shelter or apartment building. They were going to sleep. Phillip woke up in the night, he seen his door was ajar I seen his gun was off the counter, even his boots were gone. He went over to see what was happening and he turned over to see Tara holding his gun, pointed to him. She said to just do what she says, she said leave and never come back. Phillip was sort of begging for them to stay, she shot the wall next to him, waking everybody else. Nick, and Brian, there stuff was gone too. Nick was pleading Tara to stay, or just give them at least some food for Penny. She had no sympathy and left them out in the street raining. They ran inside a small building for shelter but there were a lot of those "biters" outside. They ran into a barbershop, found some supplies, towels, bottles, rags, and a lighter. They decided to make Molotov cocktails and throw them at them, buying them some time they ran into the same motor shop as before. And seem racks of motorcycles. They stayed there for some time until the rain went away. And decided to go on 2 motorcycles, Brian and Nick on 1, Phillip and Penny on the other. They were just driving to find somewhere safe. After driving for awhile, they come up to a small town, it's clean, looks abandoned. BUT... Brian says he seen a silhouette of like 2 people, he said I think we're being followed.

Plot: The main events that happened so far is, Bobby Marsh dying. Reaching Atlanta, Finding the Chalmer's family. Leaving the Chalmer's family. Finding this place that seems to be "empty". I don't think I have gotten to the climax yet but I have just a feeling someone Phillip loves is gonna die, but I hope not. Things that surprised me so far in the plot is that Phillip and his group got kicked out of the Chalmer's family apartment. I really thought they were going to stay longer. That's it so far.

Workers' rights blog

  • Bangladesh factory owners surrender in 2012 fire-that-killed-112
Paragraph 1: What was the argument in the article? What evidence did they give to back up this claim? What do you think about the issue? What did you learn that was surprising/interesting/upsetting?  The argument in this article is that the building needs to be more safer. Safer for the workers, more exits, better managers, and owners should be more diligent of their workers. There was a fire in the building and there were no exits in the building except the main one. The one exit got crowded and many people didn't make it and died. The managers told them it was a drill, and nothing to worry about. They later got arrested, and the owners also got arrested. They are not sure how the fire started, but they think it started by a lit cigaret. I think this is upsetting and shocking because the own managers lied to them about a fire. They even locked the gates on the people, in the higher levels. The managers escaped but the 112 people died. One man said he had to climb down a bamboo tree to get  all the way down to escape.
  • Paragraph 2: What was the argument in the poem? What evidence did they give to back up this claim? How was reading the poem different than the article? How did this form affect the meaning or your understanding of the poem? The argument was that workers deserve more rights, or thats what I at least think. They keep saying "I become a machine." They lose their emotion, they lose their thoughts. All they do is work, they're like a machine. Nothing but work, work, work, work. Reading the article then poem is very different, the poem doesn't give out the info straight forward unlike the article. They drop hints and it has deeper meanings than an article.

Blog about The Walking Dead.

After they met up with the Chalmers they figures out David has lung cancer and needs the oxygen tanks to breathe. But he's doing fine now. They talked and they seem "cool" with each other for now. Penny goes by April and they spend some time together, Phillip smiles because she hasn't seen Penny happy in awhile. Brian, Phillip, and Nick, go clear the rooms upstairs. There were 4 of those "biters" in the room, they took them out quick. They all later slept in different places. The next morning they wake up, eat stale cereal. And go to the roof, and throw of the dead bodies off the building. But that causes something else to happen, a bunch of those things come towards the building because of the loud Thumps. They soon surround the building. And later, April and Phillip go out and bring them another direction. They go down and make loud noises, distracting all of them. Getting back to the house safe, but they didn't tell no one. And everybody was mad at them, but then, they saw all the things they brought back, and they were than happy. Later they stay, relax, and talk about their pasts what happened before. The next day, they wake up eat some stuff, and see what happening. Everything is safe now, but when April and Tara are talking to Phillip, Penny comes out and says "The old man fell down." They run over and see him on the ground face down, grasping for air, April and Tara go in very scared and worried. Phillip stands back and just watched them. Blinking his eyes very fast. They carry him on the bed. And they wait. Later they said he died, it was very quiet. No one said a word. Tara holding her Dad's dead hands, April drinking some "cheap" wine. Phillip, Brian, and Nick sit in the other room waiting.

The book genre is Science Fiction because of all the sickness going around in it. I like this book a lot, I just like the post apocalyptic books like the 11th plague book too. I think I'll read more books like this, there's also like 4 more other books in this series. I just like the surviving aspect of the book, you meet this people, survive, some leave and die, meet new people and continue. And there's also other threats that people meet up with. The last chapter was kind of sad because David died, and I wonder what's gonna happen next in the book. And the other new characters April and Tara are pretty good. They help Penny out which makes Phillip feel good and happy.

Blog for The Walking Dead

Summary- They've reached Atlanta and they were in the building and heard the noise in the back. But  when they went back there it was just a small animals that later ran out. Then they seen and saw a Women on top of a building. She was waving a weapon towards them signaling them to come over. They were sceptic, or at least Phillip was. They went over after talking it over with the group. Phillip had an eerie feeling about this. But the women was nice and revealed herself, her name was April Chalmers. That there were 2 more people. Her dad and her other sister. They got in, after discussing a few things. There they met David Chalmers, and Tara Chalmers. David wasn't so fond of having new people over, fearing they can do something to his daughters. But after they talked it out everything was fine. And they are just staying right now.  So far this is one of my more favorite books, I just really like the plot and all the characters, and since I watch the Tv show I can see the differences between the both. This side being towards Phillip sides A.K.A The Governor.

Conflicts- There are many conflicts in this book, emotionally and physically. Man vs man, as in the "walkers" and other people. Man vs self through the things people are going through, relationships and other stuff. Well the biggest conflict happening now in the book is probably trusting others. Now that Phillip found another small group he has to trust them, and they have to trust him and he's group.

Blog for Call of Duty.

This article was kind of sad and touching because I use to have a German Shepard too. I've heard many stories like this before, with a man and his dog in war. The dog saved his life, but when he was injured he got a different handler. And he was mad and furious. I think I would be too, because that dog is like your partner and they're a team. But then they meet again and everything is shipshape... except he doesn't have his legs. He got 2 prosthetic legs now but he knows how to use them. So everything is kind of good for Jose and his dog Zenit.

Lemon Brown

LEMON BROWN- The story of Lemon Brown is about a boy named Greg who ventures  out because he's father lectures him to do good in math and goes inside a home. And then he suddenly see's an old man, who tell him his name is Lemon Brown, and that people use to call him "Sweet lemon".  Which I thought was kind of funny. He goes on telling him what he use to be,  that he played the blues. Use to have a wife and a kid. And then they heard a noise downstairs, and it was a couple of thugs looking for the "Old mans treasure". But they left. And later Greg suggests he leaves and tells Lemon Brown to be safe and "O.K." Later Greg leaves and as he's on his stoop he smiles. Suggesting he is happy for what he has and that he has his dad. I liked the book,  it went slow to action and to slow again.

Summary and POV for The Walking Dead

Summary- They reached Atlanta where there was suppose to be a refuge center for everyone. But when they got there it was deserted, abandon, and empty. They drive slowly down the streets and see no sign of life. Everything left in a hurry, cars wrecked and stacked together. Buildings torn, and glass everywhere. Debris getting blown around. This brought rage to Phillip, hoping there would be something here. They came all this way for nothing, and for what, he thought. Losing his friend. They got out and stayed in a small motor shop building. Until they heard a noise in the back.

POV- This book has 3rd person Omniscient. The author uses he, she, his, her, and some other words. I know this because the author focuses on one character mainly, saying he's thoughts and feelings. But he also switches characters. In one section of the book it explains Brian's life, and what he thought of the city, it said "He remember's being surprised at the number."  Then it switches to Phillip and he explains what he's going through. I like this book, it explains things in great detail. And knowing everybody's thoughts probably help me understand more of what each character is going through.

Character and Summary for 'The Walking Dead'

Character analyze: The main character is Phillip Blake and he is compassionate towards his daughter. He's brave and a leader of his small group. He's brave because he went out in the dark to protect his daughter, and everybody looks up at him. He's also a fast thinker.

Summary: Phillip Blake, Brian Blake, Bobby Marsh, Nick and Penny Blake all sit in a dark building. Not knowing what is happening to the world. Hearing moans and groans from the monsters outside and inside of the rooms. They clear the room of the "monsters".  And they settle in talking about the past and what they've gone through. Nick, Bobby, Phillip and Brian are all around the same age and new each other since High school.  Penny is about 7 years old and the only thing that keeps Phillip going. Later one of those things got in and caused a mess and one of them got ahold of Bobby Marsh. He didn't make it, and everyone was upset and they left the area in their car that they had. They then got onto a high way and in a interstate there was a big truck and fire covering it, they went around and found a school bus to stay in that night. Seeing many dark figures around them that night they left and took the car around. Now they've reached a church where they rest for now, until they get to Atlanta to find a refuge center.
